Hey guys we can coordinate here for our working group meeting 👍
Is anyone willing to volunteer as chair/team lead?
@channel anyone? Otherwise I will at least set up the when2meet or doodle and can put you all on the spot in the meeting 😉
Would be good that the chair is someone else than @James Fellows Yates or me
👍 I was actually wondering if @Ophélie Lebrasseur would be willing (to put people on the spot already 😬)?
(but honeslty no pressure, I was just thinking Irina and Alex have already been quite invested in the 'higher up' of AncientMetagenomeDir, and I like seeing diversity across the leadership of the different projects, and you have quite a lot of experience of different sample types from what I remember of what you've been working on 🙂 )
It's looking like Thursday 17th Feb will work @channel! Please confirm on the when2meet link
@Ophélie Lebrasseur and @Antonio Fernandez-Guerra just need you two (sorry for the spam, but can't leave it too late in case everyone's calendars get booked up in the meantime 😉 )
@James Fellows Yates, Heya, sorry - just catching up on it all. I've just completed the when2meet 🙂 As for volunteering, thank you for thinking of me 🙂 My only worry is that I'm still very new to the field, and worry I don't have the expertise yet to be a good chair/team lead. But it would definitely be a good learning curve 😅
*Thread Reply:* You don't need to necessarily need to have the knowledge (if anything maybe being chair helps you to 'absorb'), it's more just gathering and organising the discussions - so if you're still up for it (fine if you don't feel comfortable at the moment), I would think you're still the best person 🙂
*Thread Reply:* The structure is meant to be pretty flat, I just find it's easier to coordinate between different groups with one main 'contact' person
Hello all, I've had a proper think about the volunteering, and whilst I would welcome the experience (as I agree it would really help develop my expertise), I don't think I can commit to taking on the role as I am moving a lot at the moment and prepping to head to Argentina for the best part of the year. Once in Argentina, my priority will be the field and so I cannot currently guarantee the time I will be able to dedicate to the working group as chair/contact person. I'm sorry, it's just not the greatest of timings and I'm worried I won't be able to deliver what I sign up for. Thank you for the suggestion though 🙂
Ok well given obth Antonio and I are here maybe it's not so importnant
But still hope you can partipate @Ophélie Lebrasseur ❤️
Thank you very much for your understanding 💛 And yes, I'm still planning on participating as much as I can!
Good luck with the fieldwork too!
@channel so unfortunately there was no one time that everyone could make it, so I've selected Wednesday 13:30_14:30 as our MINAS-microbiome meeting time (sorry @Antonio Fernandez-Guerra). I've sent everyone I had google accounts for a google event invitation (@Ophélie Lebrasseur I'm just missing you)
*Thread Reply:* No worries - my gmail is ophelie.lebrasseur@gmail.com
Please PRIOR the meeting try and go through the checklist core- and relevant env packages and you decide what you think we can can and cannot use
didn’t I select thursday when all of us were available?
There was only a 30m slot and unfortunately I had an important meeting that overlaps that exact 30m :\
@channel reminder we are meeting TOMORROW at 13:30 on gather.town!
Make sure to have reviewed the MIxS checklist and env packages befroe then!
Five minutes!
https://app.gather.town/app/PlXjb0deog0B4JCq/spaam-community
Meet here instead: https://harvard.zoom.us/j/5454125164
(context: gather.town is blocked at MPI-EVA for some reason... so Alex and Irina could'nt join)
So to summarise:
• We identified all the relevant MIxS core fields • We identified a few core fields that are missing that we need (some debate about definitions, but we can come back to this) • We didn't really identify any mandatory environmental fields; so likely we do not need a specific package for any microbiome related environments • James will collate and clean everything up, and insert (very) draft definitions for the fields we felt were missing
• James will send the 'cleaned' version before the next meeting for everyone to check, but in the meantime if anyone thinks of any extra relevant fields please post here for discussion
Oh and I finally worked out how to get it:
So you can pick any of the 'bronze age' defintitions, but but it maps to a year-based chornology
You have to select 'timeline' mode
@channel cleaned up version here:

Split into the following tabs - Core (what we want to keep, maybe tweak); Environmental (stuff we want to keep <- not much here); MINAS: new specific fields for aDNA
I've also attempted draft descriptions for the new MINAS fields so please already start ripping them a part 💪
